DOE, Oil Firms To Gradually Implement Fuel Price Hikes This Week

Fuel prices in the Philippines are set to rise this week, but increases will be rolled out gradually after the Department of Energy (DOE) coordinated with several oil companies to ease the immediate impact on consumers.
The staggered adjustments will cover the period March 10 to 16, with participating firms applying daily increases in phases instead of one large hike. The DOE said this approach allows motorists and businesses to adjust while reflecting changes in global oil prices.
The move comes amid continued volatility in international markets, driven by tensions in the Middle East. Since the Philippines imports most of its crude oil and petroleum products, local pump prices are highly sensitive to global price swings.
Under the country’s deregulated fuel pricing system, oil companies set pump prices based on global benchmarks and notify the DOE of adjustments. While the government cannot cap prices, it can encourage measures like staggered implementation to help soften the effect on consumers.
Energy officials said they will continue monitoring global oil developments and work with industry stakeholders to ensure stable fuel supply and manage the impact of price volatility.
