COTTBUS, Germany — Filipino pole vaulter Ernest “EJ” Obiena shared the men’s pole vault title at the International Springer‑Meeting on January 29, 2026, after clearing 5.77 meters alongside Menno Vloon of the Netherlands.

Both athletes recorded identical attempts and misses. After a jump-off at the next height failed to separate them, officials declared them co-champions, marking a strong start to Obiena’s indoor season with a new season’s best jump.

American Sam Kendricks also cleared 5.77 meters but placed third due to needing more attempts.

In the women’s high jump, Yuliia Levchenko of Ukraine shared first place with Bianca Stichling of Germany, both clearing 1.88 meters.

Obiena’s performance adds another highlight to his international career, continuing to solidify his reputation as one of the world’s top pole vaulters.
