Authorities have arrested former police officer Rafael Dumlao III, one of the suspects in the high-profile kidnapping and killing of South Korean businessman Jee Ick-joo in 2016.

According to Interior Secretary Jonvic Remulla, Dumlao was captured by law enforcement authorities at around 5 a.m. on Tuesday after being tracked down at a hideout in Quezon City.

The arrest marks a significant development in the long-running case that drew international attention and sparked outrage after Jee Ick-joo was abducted and killed during an alleged anti-drug operation nearly a decade ago.

Dumlao, a former police lieutenant colonel, has been linked to the controversial case involving the South Korean businessman, whose death exposed abuses committed by rogue police officers and triggered widespread calls for accountability within law enforcement ranks.

Authorities have yet to release further details regarding the circumstances of Dumlao’s arrest and the next legal steps that will be taken against him.

The case remains one of the most notorious criminal incidents involving members of the Philippine National Police, drawing both local and international scrutiny since it first came to light in 2016.
