A U.S. Army Reserve soldier reported by relatives to be of Filipino descent was among six American service members killed when a drone struck a military command facility in Kuwait, according to the U.S. Department of Defense.

The Pentagon said Robert M. Marzan, a 54-year-old Chief Warrant Officer 3 from Sacramento, California, is believed to be one of the soldiers killed when the unmanned aerial attack hit a tactical operations center at the Port of Shuaiba in Kuwait on March 1, 2026.

Marzan served with the United States Army Reserve under the 103rd Sustainment Command (Expeditionary), a logistics unit responsible for providing supplies and operational support to U.S. forces deployed overseas.

U.S. defense officials said the strike targeted a command facility used by American personnel stationed in Kuwait, a key logistical hub for U.S. military operations in the Middle East. The attack occurred amid escalating tensions in the region involving the United States and Iran.

Five other Army Reserve service members were also killed in the same incident: Jeffrey R. O’Brien, Cody A. Khork, Nicole M. Amor, Noah L. Tietjens, and Declan J. Coady.

Family remembers Marzan’s decades of service

In a social media tribute, a relative identified as Irene Mary described Marzan as a devoted husband, father, and uncle who had spent more than three decades serving in the U.S. military.

She said the Kuwait deployment was expected to be his final assignment before returning home.

“My uncle was just two months away from coming back home, this was his last deployment after serving in the Army for over 30 years,” she wrote.

Family members also asked for prayers for Marzan’s wife, Tina, and their children, Justin and Felicia, as they cope with the loss.

The relative described him as “a devoted husband, protective and loving father” and “our Hero with a servant’s heart.”

Investigation underway

U.S. military authorities said an investigation is ongoing to determine how the drone attack penetrated base defenses and to review security measures at American installations across the region.

The strike has drawn attention from military analysts and policymakers as one of the deadliest single attacks on American troops in the region in recent years.

For many Filipino-American communities, Marzan’s death also highlights the long history of Filipinos serving in the U.S. armed forces, where thousands have built military careers and taken part in overseas deployments.

As tributes continue to pour in, Marzan is being remembered both for his decades of military service and for the life he shared with his family before making the ultimate sacrifice while serving his country.
