Fuel Secured For Now As Marcos Says PH Oil Supply Stable Until June

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has given the public some breathing room, assuring that the country’s crude oil supply is enough to last until June 30, 2026.

Speaking on Friday, the President said the government has been working double time to secure fuel sources, especially after declaring a national energy emergency due to the ongoing tensions in the Middle East.

On the sidelines of the opening of the new NAIA Expressway westbound off-ramp in Pasay City, Marcos shared that fuel shipments have been arriving steadily—particularly crude oil that can be refined locally into products like diesel.

“May sapat tayong supply ng crude oil hanggang June 30,” he said, emphasizing that the country is currently in a stable position when it comes to fuel reserves.

He also pointed out a key reason behind the government’s strategy: cost.

According to Marcos, importing crude oil and refining it locally is more practical than bringing in already processed fuel like diesel, which comes at a higher price.

“Iba ang presyo kapag refined na ang inaangkat. Mas mahal talaga,” he explained.

Even with the assurance, the President made it clear that the government isn’t stopping there. Efforts are ongoing to find more sources of oil to strengthen the country’s long-term energy security.

Adding to the supply boost, a vessel carrying more than 700,000 barrels of crude oil from Russia has recently arrived in the Philippines.

The shipment is headed to the refinery of Petron Corporation in Bataan, where it will be processed into fuel products such as diesel and gasoline.

This delivery also marks the Philippines’ return to importing Russian crude, after a pause that began in 2022 amid global disruptions caused by the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
