Sharon Garin is demanding answers from the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines following transmission disruptions linked to the Ilijan power facility that reportedly affected thousands of consumers across Luzon.

In a strongly worded statement posted on Facebook, Garin said the situation was “hindi katanggap-tanggap” or unacceptable stressing that the public deserves a clear explanation about what really happened and why the incident was allegedly not immediately reported to the proper authorities.

She pointed out that under ERC Resolution No. 13, NGCP is required to submit an initial report within 60 minutes after any system disruption occurs.

According to Garin, this rule exists so concerned agencies can respond quickly and prevent larger problems from spreading across the power grid.

The official is now seeking a full explanation from NGCP regarding the cause of the disruption, the reported delay in reporting the incident, and the measures being taken to prevent similar outages in the future.

She also emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability, especially when millions of Filipinos could potentially be affected by power-related issues.

“Kapag milyon-milyong Pilipino ang naaapektuhan, dapat may transparency, pananagutan, at accountability,” she said.

The incident has sparked growing public concern over the reliability of the country’s power transmission system, particularly as demand continues to rise in several parts of Luzon.
