Gatchalian Says Senate Committed To Fair And Peaceful Impeachment Trial

Senate President Sherwin Gatchalian said the opening days of Vice President Sara Duterte's impeachment trial have been conducted in an orderly and peaceful manner, highlighting the Senate's commitment to upholding the rule of law and carrying out its constitutional duty.
According to Gatchalian, the proceedings have allowed the Senate to effectively function as an impeachment court, expressing hope that the same level of professionalism and respect will continue throughout the trial.
He said the discipline and decorum shown by the Senate reflect its commitment to handling the proceedings with fairness, impartiality, and respect for justice.
Gatchalian also thanked Filipinos who have been closely following the trial, saying their attention serves as a reminder that the proceedings are about seeking the truth and ensuring accountability—not politics.
He likewise commended his fellow senator-judges for approaching the trial with the discipline and open-mindedness expected of them.
The Senate President reiterated that the chamber remains committed to observing due process by giving both the prosecution and the defense equal opportunity to present their arguments.
