Go Pushes Healthcare Closer To Communities With New Bukidnon Facility

As the country returned to normal operations after the Holy Week break, Senator Bong Go wasted no time getting back to work—reaffirming his push to make healthcare more accessible to everyday Filipinos.

On Monday, April 6, Go personally joined local officials in the turnover of a new Super Health Center in San Fernando, Bukidnon, highlighting what he calls a key step in bringing medical services closer to communities, especially those in remote areas.

Standing alongside officials such as Mayor Rogelio Yeke and Vice Mayor Jeaser Mae Yeke, Go emphasized unity among Filipinos, regardless of background. In a heartfelt message, he reminded everyone that whether Bisaya or Matigsalug, “we are all brothers and sisters” and should continue to care for one another.

The senator also took a moment to recognize the presence and sacrifices of uniformed personnel, noting past efforts to improve their welfare, including salary increases.

But the main focus of the day? Expanding grassroots healthcare.

Go shared that more than 700 Super Health Centers have already been funded nationwide, with six located in Bukidnon—including the newly opened facility in San Fernando. These centers are designed to bridge the gap between small rural health units and major hospitals, offering services like consultations under the Konsulta package, lab tests, birthing care, dental services, and access to essential medicines.

He explained that unlike Malasakit Centers, which focus on financial aid for hospital bills, Super Health Centers are where patients can actually go for check-ups and consultations. For Go, both programs go hand in hand.

He stressed that the success of these facilities depends on strong cooperation between the Department of Health and local government units—what he described as a true “bayanihan” approach to healthcare.

The senator also pointed out how crucial these centers are for far-flung communities, citing areas like Lake Sebu where access to hospitals has long been a challenge. With Super Health Centers now in place, residents no longer have to travel far just to receive basic medical care.

Beyond this initiative, Go highlighted other health reforms he has supported, including Republic Act No. 11463, which institutionalized Malasakit Centers and has already helped millions of Filipinos, as well as Republic Act No. 11959 that pushes for regional specialty centers in government hospitals.

He also touched on a lesser-known but impactful effort—providing halfway houses near hospitals for families of patients. These shelters offer a place to stay for watchers who would otherwise sleep on sidewalks while waiting for their loved ones.

For Go, all these efforts point to one goal: making sure no Filipino is left behind when it comes to healthcare.

“Let’s bring medical services closer to the people,” he reiterated—turning that vision into reality, one community at a time.
