Impeachment Push Rolls On Even During Congress Break

Even with lawmakers on recess, the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte are moving full speed ahead.

The House Committee on Justice has been given the green light to continue its hearings after the House of Representatives of the Philippines approved House Resolution 892. In simple terms, the panel doesn’t have to hit pause just because Congress is on break.

Under the resolution, the committee can hold hearings from March 21 to May 3, 2026, making sure the impeachment process doesn’t lose momentum.

The panel is also stepping up protections for those involved. It now has the authority to put safeguards in place for complainants and witnesses—an important move as the case progresses and more testimonies are expected.

At the same time, developments on the legal front continue. The complainant behind the fourth impeachment case, known as the Cabrera complaint, has already responded to the “Answer Ad Cautelam” filed by the Vice President’s camp.

Like in an earlier complaint, lawyer Nathaniel Cabrera chose to waive the right to reply, citing what was described as a failure by the respondent to directly address the allegations.
