Kris Aquino paid tribute to her late brother, former President Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, as the family marked what would have been his 65th birthday on Tuesday.

The television host and actress shared on social media that she, together with her sons Josh and Bimby, visited Manila Memorial Park early in the morning to remember the former president, who passed away on June 24, 2021.

Despite suffering from severe body pain brought about by lupus and rheumatoid arthritis flare-ups, Aquino pushed through with the visit alongside Bimby. She also noted that many people have praised her younger son's humility and ability to get along with others, traits she attributed to the influence of his uncle, whom she described as a positive role model for the family.

The date held special significance for the Aquinos as June 24 marks both the birth and death anniversary of the country's 15th president. Aquino's post referred to the occasion as his fifth birthday in heaven, marking five years since his passing.

Benigno Aquino III died at the age of 61 after serving as president from 2010 to 2016. The son of democracy icons Benigno “Ninoy” Aquino Jr. and former President Corazon Aquino, he championed the “Daang Matuwid” governance platform, which focused on transparency, accountability, and anti-corruption reforms.

During his administration, the Philippines recorded some of the fastest economic growth rates in Asia and achieved investment-grade status from major international credit rating agencies. His term also saw the passage of key legislation, including the Responsible Parenthood and Reproductive Health Act and the Enhanced Basic Education Act, which institutionalized the K-12 program.

Five years after his death, Aquino continues to be remembered by family members, political allies, and supporters for his leadership and commitment to public service. Annual commemorations have become occasions to reflect on his legacy and the enduring influence of the Aquino family in Philippine politics.

For Kris Aquino, the occasion was a deeply personal remembrance of a beloved brother whose influence continues to be felt within the family and among Filipinos who witnessed his years in public service.
