Motorists due for renewal in 2026 will have more time to comply as the government rolls out a temporary easing measure for transportation-related documents.

The Land Transportation Office announced the extension of validity for driver’s licenses, student permits, and motor vehicle registrations expiring starting April 2026. The extension will be valid for three months.

The measure was issued in line with the directive of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and the Department of Transportation, aimed at easing public burden amid rising fuel costs and increasing prices of basic commodities.

During the extended validity period, no surcharges, penalties, or fines will be imposed for late renewal.

The policy covers driver’s licenses, conductor’s licenses, student-driver’s permits, and motor vehicle registrations.

The Department of Transportation (Philippines), together with the LTO, is expected to issue further guidelines to ensure smooth implementation and uniform application of the extension nationwide.
