President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. is rolling out a major upgrade in maternity care—one that could significantly cut hospital bills for expectant mothers.

Beginning April 30, the Philippine Health Insurance Corporation or Philippine Health Insurance Corporation will sharply increase its maternity benefit packages, aiming to ease the financial burden of childbirth.

In a video message, Marcos said coverage for normal deliveries will jump to ₱29,000, nearly three times the previous ₱9,750. For cesarean sections, benefits will rise from ₱37,000 to as much as ₱58,000 to ₱62,000.

The President pointed out that in many cases, mothers admitted to wards—even in private hospitals—may no longer need to pay anything upon discharge.

The improvements don’t stop at delivery. Prenatal care coverage has been expanded from four to eight checkups, now including vaccines and laboratory tests. Postnatal care is also getting a boost, with three follow-up visits now covered.

Marcos said the goal is straightforward: make sure every mother can give birth safely without worrying about the cost.

He emphasized that no life should be put at risk simply because of a lack of money, as the government pushes to make maternal healthcare more accessible across the country.
