President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. has called Congress to a special session on June 17, 2026, to tackle several priority measures aimed at strengthening social services and improving the welfare of Filipinos.

Under Proclamation No. 1318, Marcos directed lawmakers to convene and urgently consider a number of key legislative proposals, including the establishment of a National Center for Geriatric Health, amendments to the Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASTPE) Act, and the proposed Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS) Act.

Also included in the administration’s priority agenda are amendments to the Universal Access to Quality Tertiary Education Act, the proposed Last Mile and Geographically Isolated and Disadvantaged and Conflict-Affected Areas (GIDA) Schools Act, and revisions to the Masustansyang Pagkain Para sa Batang Pilipino Act.

Among the measures set for discussion is the proposed Anti-Political Dynasty Law, as well as the creation of a Presidential Merit Scholarship Program.

The President said the special session will also allow the Commission on Appointments to convene and act on pending appointments to the Cabinet, military, and foreign service, in accordance with constitutional requirements and existing laws.

Marcos issued the proclamation through the powers granted to the President under Section 15, Article VI of the Constitution, emphasizing the need to address measures that would strengthen social protection programs and help uplift the lives of Filipinos.

The special session is scheduled to take place on June 17, with lawmakers expected to deliberate on the administration’s priority legislative agenda.
