President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. has declared Wednesday, May 27, 2026, a regular holiday nationwide in observance of Eid’l Adha, or the Feast of Sacrifice, one of Islam’s most important religious celebrations.
Under Proclamation No. 1264, signed on May 21, Marcos said the declaration follows the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos based on the 1447 Hijrah Islamic Lunar Calendar.
Eid’l Adha, considered one of the two major feasts in Islam, is observed by Muslims worldwide to commemorate faith, sacrifice, and obedience to God.
The proclamation also cited Republic Act No. 9849, which declares the 10th day of Zhul Hijja — the 12th month of the Islamic calendar — a national holiday with a movable date.
“With the recommendation of the National Commission on Muslim Filipinos, May 27, 2026, Wednesday, is hereby declared a regular holiday throughout the country in observance of Eid’l Adha,” the proclamation stated.
The holiday declaration means workers are entitled to holiday pay in accordance with existing labor regulations, while government offices, schools, and many businesses are expected to suspend regular operations for the day.
