President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Public Works Secretary Vince Dizon on Monday visited the Estero de Sunog Apog Pumping Station in Tondo, Manila, a long-delayed flood control project that is finally expected to become fully operational this June.

The inspection highlighted the administration’s push to accelerate key infrastructure projects aimed at addressing chronic flooding in Metro Manila.

Also joining the visit was Manila Mayor Isko Moreno, as officials toured the pumping station which had remained unfinished for six years.

The Estero de Sunog Apog Pumping Station is part of the government’s broader long-term flood mitigation plan intended to help protect flood-prone and low-lying communities across the capital region.

Once completed, the facility is expected to help ease flooding in major areas such as España, Sampaloc, Rizal Avenue, and Maria Clara in Manila, along with parts of Quezon City that are often affected during heavy rains.

Government officials said the project is a significant step toward strengthening drainage systems and improving flood response in densely populated urban communities.
