President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. has ordered an investigation after a viral video showed a staff member of the Migrant Workers Office allegedly treating overseas Filipino workers rudely in Bahrain.

Malacañang said the President was displeased after watching the video involving Anthony Allermo, an employee of the Migrant Workers Office (MWO), who was seen confronting several Overseas Filipino Workers seeking financial assistance.

According to Palace Press Officer Claire Castro, the President immediately directed Department of Migrant Workers Secretary Hans Leo Cacdac to look into the incident and take the necessary action.

Castro said the President did not take the matter lightly, especially since the video quickly spread on social media.

“Hindi ito ikinatuwa ng Pangulo. Nagalit siya para sa ating mga OFWs dahil sa pagmamaltrato ng ilang public servant,” Castro said, stressing that the government must always treat Filipino workers abroad with respect.

She added that the President’s standing order is clear — government personnel must help Filipinos overseas, especially those currently affected by tensions in the Middle East.

In the viral clip, Allermo was heard telling OFWs who had lined up for cash assistance that the distribution had already ended and that no funds were left. He then asked them to leave.

Several OFWs in the video expressed frustration, saying they had traveled from far areas just to receive the aid. They also said the MWO should have informed them earlier that the assistance program had already concluded.

Castro emphasized that government employees should never abuse their authority or treat fellow Filipinos with arrogance.

She also delivered a strong message from the Palace, saying public servants who lack compassion have no place in the administration.

“Ang taong walang puso sa pagsisilbi ay walang puwang sa administrasyon ni Pangulong Ferdinand Marcos Jr.,” Castro said.

“If you cannot serve our countrymen wholeheartedly, you should voluntarily step down from your position.”

Following the incident, Cacdac ordered Allermo’s recall.

Malacañang assured the public that the government remains committed to protecting and assisting OFWs, especially those facing difficulties abroad.
