Marcos, New US Envoy Reaffirm Strong Philippines-US Alliance

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. formally welcomed United States Ambassador Lee Lipton after receiving his credentials in Malacañang, reaffirming the longstanding alliance between the Philippines and the United States as both countries continue to expand cooperation on security, economic development, and regional affairs.
The credential presentation comes as Manila and Washington mark 80 years of diplomatic relations and the 75th anniversary of the Philippines–United States Mutual Defense Treaty (MDT), reflecting decades of close cooperation and shared commitment to peace, stability, and mutual prosperity.
During their meeting, President Marcos and Ambassador Lipton discussed key areas of cooperation, including economic development, defense and security, maritime affairs, regional developments, and the Philippines' ASEAN Chairship. Both sides also emphasized the importance of strengthening strategic partnerships and expanding people-to-people ties.
President Marcos underscored the enduring relationship between the two countries and expressed confidence that the Philippines and the United States would continue working closely to deepen their partnership in the years ahead.
Ambassador Lipton, meanwhile, reaffirmed the United States' commitment to further enhancing bilateral relations, particularly in security cooperation, trade and investment, economic ties, and exchanges between the Filipino and American people.
Lipton arrived in Manila after being confirmed by the U.S. Senate in May 2026. Before assuming his post, he met with Philippine Ambassador to the United States Jose Manuel Romualdez to discuss opportunities to expand cooperation in trade, investment, energy, critical minerals, advanced manufacturing, resilient supply chains, and other strategic sectors.
He succeeds MaryKay Carlson, who completed her tour of duty as U.S. ambassador to the Philippines earlier this year.
The United States remains the Philippines' oldest treaty ally, with cooperation spanning defense, trade, education, disaster response, public health, and economic development. In recent years, the two countries have strengthened their partnership through expanded defense cooperation, increased joint military exercises, and broader collaboration on regional security and economic initiatives.
The presentation of Ambassador Lipton's credentials signals the continued commitment of both governments to deepen bilateral relations and pursue greater cooperation on issues that promote regional peace, economic growth, and shared prosperity.
