Marcos, Putin Eye Stronger PH-Russia Ties As Leaders Mark Key Milestones In Kazan

President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. and Russian President Vladimir Putin held talks in Kazan as both leaders explored new ways to strengthen cooperation between the Philippines and Russia, building on a diplomatic relationship that traces its roots back five decades.
Marcos said the meeting was an opportunity to continue the partnership that began 50 years ago when the Philippines and the former Soviet Union established diplomatic relations. According to the President, discussions focused on potential areas of cooperation, particularly in food security, energy, trade, and investment.
The Philippine leader expressed optimism that deeper collaboration between the two countries could bring tangible benefits to Filipinos while contributing to greater stability and economic growth in the region.
"The next chapter of Philippines-Russia relations should create meaningful opportunities for our people and help foster a more peaceful and prosperous future," Marcos said.
Aside from the bilateral meeting, Marcos also joined fellow regional leaders at a gala reception hosted by Putin to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the ASEAN-Russia partnership.
As Chair of ASEAN, Marcos highlighted the importance of cooperation among nations in addressing shared challenges and maximizing opportunities for growth and development.
He noted that while countries continue to face various global and regional issues, stronger partnerships built on mutual respect and common goals can help pave the way toward shared prosperity.
The gathering in Kazan underscored the longstanding ties between ASEAN and Russia, as leaders reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening cooperation and promoting peace, stability, and economic progress across the region.
