The Palace has responded to Vice President Sara Duterte’s announcement that she will run for president in the 2028 national elections, giving a brief reaction.

According to Presidential Communications Office Undersecretary Claire Castro, President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. heard Duterte’s announcement and simply said: “Good luck.” When asked if the remark was sincere or sarcastic, Castro said she could not say.

Duterte made her bid public on Wednesday, outlining her intention to seek the presidency two years before the official campaign period.

Duterte’s supporters welcomed her announcement while some political figures have already begun weighing in on the implications for the 2028 race.

For now, the President’s two-word comment — “Good luck” — stands as the official Palace reaction to one of the most closely watched political developments in the Philippines.
