President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. skipped two scheduled public engagements on Tuesday as he monitored the situation surrounding a protest rally along EDSA near the People Power Monument in Quezon City.

The President was initially expected to lead the inauguration of the state-of-the-art marine cleanup vessel, MV Nilad, at South Harbor in Manila's Port Area. Instead, his prepared speech was delivered by Acting Transportation Secretary Giovanni Lopez, who represented him during the ceremony.

Marcos also canceled his appearance at the Foreign Correspondents Association of the Philippines' Presidential Luncheon at the Makati Shangri-La Hotel.

Presidential Communications Office Acting Secretary Dave Gomez confirmed that the President decided to stay updated on developments related to the rally, which reportedly drew unidentified protest groups to the People Power Monument.

The demonstration led to heavy traffic along portions of EDSA, prompting authorities to closely monitor the area.

Despite the changes to his public schedule, Gomez said the President's official meetings and activities inside Malacañang Palace would continue as planned.

No further details were immediately provided regarding the protest or whether the President's postponed engagements would be rescheduled.
