Marcos Welcomes ASEAN Leaders In Cebu For 48th Summit

President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. formally welcomed leaders of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) to Cebu as the Philippines hosts the 48th ASEAN Summit and Related Meetings, marking the country’s return as ASEAN Chair.
The gathering brings together regional heads under the theme “Navigating Our Future Together,” with Marcos emphasizing a shared commitment to building a peaceful, prosperous, and people-centered ASEAN.
In his remarks, the President highlighted several key priorities for the Philippines’ chairmanship. These include strengthening energy and food security across the region, supporting farmers and micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs), and enhancing protection and assistance for ASEAN nationals working overseas.
He also expressed support for the continued growth and unity of the bloc, including the welcome of Timor-Leste as a full-fledged member of the ASEAN community.
The summit in Cebu is expected to focus on cooperation efforts that address regional challenges while reinforcing ASEAN’s central role in promoting stability and development in Southeast Asia.
