Mario Kart World Adds Team Racing In Knockout Tour With Free Update
Gamers, rev your engines! The latest free update for Mario Kart™ World on Nintendo Switch™ 2 has just dropped, and it brings an exciting way to race with friends. Version 1.5.0 introduces team racing in Knockout Tour, letting players team up and barrel through courses together—locally or online.
So, what exactly is Knockout Tour? This intense mode challenges 24 racers to speed through back-to-back courses across the globe, hitting five checkpoints along the way. Miss the cutoff at a checkpoint, and you’re out! Until now, it’s been every driver for themselves, but the update lets up to four teams compete at once, turning solo speed into coordinated strategy.
Here’s how it works: form teams via local wireless or online play. You can set up matches as two-team (12 vs. 12), three-team (8 vs. 8 vs. 8), or four-team (6 vs. 6 vs. 6 vs. 6) races. If there aren’t enough players, CPU drivers fill the gaps. Points are awarded based on finishing positions, and team work is key—if all four teammates make it through the final checkpoint, victory is almost guaranteed.
Even if you get eliminated early, you can still cheer on your team from the sidelines, switching cameras to follow any driver and sharing comments to support your squad. Online players can coordinate using GameChat to maximize teamwork.
To race with friends, add them to your Friend List from the HOME Menu under My Page. Each player needs their own copy of Mario Kart World to join, but once set up, team racing is just a few taps away.
This update promises faster, more strategic, and friendlier competition in Knockout Tour—so grab your controllers, pick your team, and get ready to race to victory!
