Power distributor Manila Electric Company or Meralco clarified that it continues to support and use solar energy in its own operations, saying the move is part of the company’s long-term sustainability and energy efficiency efforts.

According to Meralco, solar panels have been installed in several of its facilities, including its headquarters, Business Centers, and Sector Offices, under its Resource Conservation & Efficiency Program launched in 2020.

The company said the initiative aims to reduce operational energy consumption while promoting more responsible and efficient electricity use.

“Meralco has installed and continues to install solar panels in our own facilities for the same reason many households and businesses are now exploring solar technology as it helps us use electricity more efficiently and responsibly,” said Engineer Ronnie L. Aperocho, Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer of Meralco.

The power distributor also stressed that it believes in adopting technologies that help conserve resources and improve efficiency.

“We believe that if a technology can help save resources and improve efficiency, we should also practice it ourselves,” Aperocho added.

Meralco likewise highlighted the role of its solar subsidiary MSpectrum, which provides solar solutions to homes and businesses looking to shift to cleaner and more sustainable energy sources.

The company said it will continue promoting the responsible use of solar energy and other eco-friendly technologies as part of its sustainability goals.
