Mike Defensor Reacts After Sandiganbayan Rejects Motion To Stop Arrest Warrant

Former congressman Mike Defensor said the Sandiganbayan has denied the motion to quash the warrant of arrest issued against him, Senator Dante Marcoleta, and two other individuals, prompting him to criticize what he described as an unjust legal process.
In a video posted on his Facebook page, Defensor announced the court's decision and claimed that he and his co-respondents are facing imprisonment despite what he insists is a baseless case.
“Magandang umaga po sa inyong lahat. Kanina lang po ay nagdesisyon ang Sandiganbayan na idine-deny ang motion to quash, o ang pagpapahinto ng warrant of arrest laban sa amin ni Senator Dante Marcoleta. Kami na lumalaban sa korapsyon ang nauna pang nakulong sa isang kasong walang batayan.”
Defensor argued that their detention would prevent them from continuing to speak out against corruption and pursue what he described as transparency and accountability in government.
“Sa amin pong pagkakakulong ay hindi na po kami makakapagsalita sa korapsyon na ang gusto lang naman namin ay lumabas ang katotohanan—transparency, accountability, and justice.”
He also claimed that those responsible for allegedly stealing public funds have yet to be held accountable.
“Nauna pa kaming makulong kaysa sa mga totoong nagnakaw sa kaban ng bayan.”
Despite the court's ruling, Defensor said he remains determined to continue fighting for his cause.
“Makukulong niyo kami at mapapatahimik, pero hindi po kami susuko. Salamat po sa lahat ng inyong suporta.”
The Sandiganbayan's denial of the motion to quash means the warrant of arrest against Defensor, Marcoleta, and their two co-respondents remains in effect. As of posting, the court has not publicly released a detailed explanation of its ruling, and no statement from the prosecution regarding Defensor's remarks has been issued.
