Negros Power Hikes June Rates
FILE
Consumers served by Negros Power will see higher electricity bills this June after the distribution utility announced a significant increase in its residential power rate.

For June 2026, the average residential electricity rate rose to ₱13.8417 per kilowatt-hour (kWh), up by ₱2.4609 per kWh from May's rate of ₱11.3808 per kWh.

According to Negros Power, the increase was largely driven by higher generation costs, particularly the rising price of electricity purchased from power suppliers and the Wholesale Electricity Spot Market (WESM).

The utility explained that electricity prices in the WESM more than doubled during the month due to limited power supply. Several power plants were unavailable, while demand for electricity remained high across the country.

The situation prompted the National Grid Corporation of the Philippines (NGCP) to place parts of the Luzon and Visayas grids under Yellow and Red Alerts, leading to a spike in spot market prices.

Adding to the increase was the higher cost of power sourced from CENPRI, which was affected by rising fuel prices in the global market. These higher fuel costs translated into more expensive electricity generation.

While transmission charges registered a slight decrease during the month, Negros Power said the reduction was not enough to offset the sharp increase in generation costs.

Aside from residential consumers, electricity rates also increased for other customer categories. The June rate for low-voltage customers was set at ₱13.7469 per kWh, while high-voltage consumers were charged ₱12.8694 per kWh.

Negros Power said the higher rates reflect the continued challenges facing the power sector, including supply constraints and increasing fuel costs, which have pushed electricity generation expenses upward.

The utility advised consumers to practice energy conservation to help manage the impact of higher power costs on their monthly bills.
