Less than a month after a massive fire tore through an informal settlement along NIA Road in Quezon City, the government is now moving fast to turn tragedy into a fresh start for thousands of displaced families.

The Department of Human Settlements and Urban Development (DHSUD) has begun ground preparations for a housing project under the Expanded Pambansang Pabahay para sa Pilipino (4PH) Program, a flagship initiative of President Ferdinand Marcos Jr..

Housing Secretary Jose Ramon Aliling, together with Senior Undersecretary Eduardo Robles Jr. and National Housing Authority General Manager Joeben Tai, personally inspected the site on Monday to make sure construction timelines stay on track.

Officials say the project is part of a broader urban renewal effort, in partnership with the Quezon City local government, aimed at transforming high-risk and underserved communities into safer, more sustainable neighborhoods.

The March 7 fire left more than 2,000 families homeless. Now, authorities say the goal is not just to rebuild — but to provide long-term, dignified housing that offers a better quality of life for those affected.
