NLEX Eyes Third Straight Win Against Unpredictable Titan Ultra

NLEX will try to extend its unbeaten start in the PBA Governors' Cup when it faces Titan Ultra on Tuesday at the Ynares Center in Antipolo. But despite opening the tournament with two straight victories, head coach Jimmy Alapag believes his team still has plenty of room to improve.
The Road Warriors cruised past guest team Macau in their opener before surviving a tense 101-100 win over Terrafirma. While NLEX escaped with the victory, Alapag admitted the close finish exposed areas that still need work.
“I think it showed that we still have a lot of work to be done. I said it the last game, malayo pa. There’s still so much season left,” Alapag said.
NLEX nearly wasted a 23-point advantage against Terrafirma, and Alapag acknowledged that he also shares responsibility for the team's late-game struggles. Still, he believes the experience will help the Road Warriors as they prepare for tougher opponents.
“Siyempre, ang daming teams dito sa PBA that have a lot of talent, a lot of experience. We’re still learning. Our guys are still learning, I’m still learning, so still more work to be done,” he added.
Although Titan Ultra enters the matchup still searching for its first win, Alapag expects a difficult challenge. The team recently brought in import Tirrell Brown after James Milton was unable to secure the required FIBA clearance.
Brown, who most recently played professionally in Colombia, arrives with a solid résumé and could present a different challenge for NLEX in his PBA debut.
The Road Warriors, meanwhile, will once again lean on import DeQuan Jones, who has been impressive through two games with averages of 27.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, and 3.5 assists. He is expected to receive strong support from Schonny Winston, Robert Bolick, and Kevin Alas as NLEX chases a 3-0 record.
