One Meralco Foundation (OMF), the corporate social responsibility arm of the Manuel V. Pangilinan-led Manila Electric Company (Meralco), was recently recognized by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources – Environmental Management Bureau (DENR-EMB) as a “Gawad Kabalikat sa Kapaligiran” partner. The award was presented during the EMB Recognition of Partners event in Quezon City on February 26.
The DENR-EMB called OMF an invaluable partner for environmental sustainability, highlighting its efforts to make communities greener and more resilient. Among its initiatives are solar electrification of public schools, agriculture and livelihood facilities, health centers, and water systems, as well as reforestation projects in critical mangrove and upland areas.
“This recognition as 'Gawad Kabalikat sa Kapaligiran' is a testament to the power of our shared purpose. It reinforces our belief that environmental sustainability is not a solo journey, but our collective responsibility. We are not just protecting resources—we are investing in a resilient, greener future for every community we serve,” said OMF President Jeffrey Tarayao, who accepted the award alongside OMF Program Manager for Environmental Sustainability Patrick Famisaran. They were joined by DENR Acting Secretary Juan Miguel Cuna, Assistant Secretary Jacqueline Caancan, and Assistant Director Maria Dorica Naz-Hipe.
