The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) announced that the 2025–2026 La Niña episode has ended after ocean monitoring showed that conditions in the tropical Pacific have returned to normal.

According to PAGASA, the Oceanic Niño Index, a key measurement used by scientists, now indicates that the El Niño–Southern Oscillation (ENSO) has shifted back to neutral levels.

Forecast models also suggest that ENSO-neutral conditions could persist from the January–February–March period until the June–July–August 2026 season.

Because of this development, PAGASA has issued its final advisory on La Niña and lowered the country’s ENSO Alert and Warning System to neutral status.

Still, the weather bureau stressed that the end of La Niña does not mean rainfall will disappear across the Philippines.

Other weather systems such as the intertropical convergence zone, easterlies, and localized thunderstorms may continue to affect different parts of the country. These systems can bring occasional heavy rains, which could trigger flash floods and rain-induced landslides, especially in vulnerable communities.

PAGASA said it will continue monitoring climate and weather conditions and will release updates if significant changes occur.

Authorities are also reminding the public and concerned agencies to remain vigilant and take necessary precautions to reduce the possible impact of weather-related hazards in the coming months.
