Palace Calls On Sara Duterte To Personally Face Impeachment Trial

Malacañang has once again urged Vice President Sara Duterte to personally appear before the Senate impeachment court, saying she should directly answer the allegations filed against her.
Palace Press Officer and Undersecretary Claire Castro said it would be better for Duterte to attend the proceedings herself, emphasizing that personally facing the charges is part of due process and an opportunity to respond to the accusations.
On Tuesday, July 7, Duterte arrived at the Senate but did not attend the second day of the impeachment trial. Instead, she met with members of her legal team before leaving the Senate complex.
Her lawyers have maintained that the vice president's personal appearance is not yet required under the current rules and that they are authorized to represent her during the proceedings unless the impeachment court orders otherwise.
The impeachment trial continues to draw nationwide attention as the Senate prepares to hear arguments from both the prosecution and the defense in one of the country's most closely watched political proceedings.
