PCG Recovers Two More Bodies In Basilan; Death Toll Rises To 42

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) has recovered two more bodies off the waters of Baluk-Baluk Island in Basilan on Saturday, pushing the fatality count of the maritime tragedy to 42 as search and rescue operations continue.
According to the PCG, the remains were found during an intensified sweep of the area, with BRP Capones (MRRV-4404) retrieving the cadavers for identification and proper turnover to authorities. The operation was carried out in coordination with the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (PDRRMO).
Despite the grim update, officials reported that 316 passengers have been confirmed safe, many of whom were rescued in the early hours following the incident.
The PCG said more updates will be released as teams continue combing the surrounding waters, deploying additional assets and divers in hopes of locating those still missing.
A progress report is expected to follow as authorities piece together what led to the deadly incident and work to provide answers to the families awaiting news of their loved ones.
