Philippine Stocks Dip As Mining, Oil Shine

MANILA — The Philippine Stock Exchange saw a mixed session on Thursday, February 12, with the main index dipping slightly while some sectors showed surprising gains.

The PSEi closed at 6,470.27, down 28.55 points or 0.44%, signaling a cautious start for the day. Most sectors followed the downward trend, with Financials dropping 15.44 points (-0.71%), Industrial sliding 27.27 points (-0.30%), and Holding Firms falling the most with a 47.8-point loss (-0.92%).

Property stocks were hit harder, losing 30.62 points (-1.37%), reflecting ongoing concerns in the real estate market. Meanwhile, All Shares decreased by 18.6 points (-0.52%), mirroring the broader market sentiment.

But it wasn’t all red. The Services sector turned heads with a gain of 22.56 points (0.84%), while Mining & Oil was the standout performer, surging 222.83 points (1.23%), driven by rising commodity prices and investor optimism.

Investors are keeping a close eye on market trends, balancing cautious moves with opportunities in resilient sectors like mining and oil.
