MANILA, Philippines — Philtranco Service Enterprises Inc. has addressed public confusion after a leaked internal memorandum suggested the company was shutting down. The transport firm clarified that while it will halt operations starting March 30, 2026, this should not be interpreted as a permanent closure.
Clarification After Leaked Memo
The internal memo—originally intended for employees—sparked speculation online that the over-century-old bus company was ending its operations for good. In response, Philtranco released a follow-up statement explaining that the document referred to a temporary suspension as the company works through internal challenges.
The management emphasized that the memo circulated without proper context, causing misinformation and heightened concern among commuters and staff.
Financial Difficulties Acknowledged
In the notice attributed to company president and CEO Michael M. Sabban, Philtranco noted that it has been dealing with years of financial losses, impacting its ability to sustain regular operations. These difficulties also affect payroll and administrative functions.
However, the company stressed that the operational halt is part of an ongoing assessment and is not a declaration of permanent shutdown.
Century-Old Legacy Paused
Philtranco, one of the country’s oldest transport firms, said the suspension is a difficult but necessary step as it charts its next course. The company thanked its drivers, conductors, mechanics, and office personnel, recognizing their role in sustaining operations for more than 100 years.
Philtranco assured the public that it will issue further announcements as plans for recovery and restructuring progress.
