MANILA, Philippines — The local stock market started the week on a strong note, with the Philippine Stock Exchange Index (PSEi) closing at 6,530.38 as of 1:51 p.m. on February 23, 2026, up 65.26 points or 1.01 percent.

Broader market sentiment was also upbeat, with the All Shares index rising 1.00 percent to 3,606.46.

Leading the charge was the Mining & Oil sector, which surged 3.03 percent to 19,368.14 — the biggest gainer among all sectors — as investors snapped up resource stocks. The Property sector followed with a 1.89 percent gain to 2,222.64, while Industrial stocks advanced 1.44 percent to 9,305.17.

Holding Firms climbed 1.15 percent to 5,157.53, and Financials edged higher by 0.53 percent to 2,189.91. Services posted a modest 0.44 percent increase to 2,726.14.

The across-the-board gains suggest renewed investor confidence, with all major sectoral indices finishing in positive territory during the session.

Market watchers said the strong performance in mining shares helped lift the main index further above the 6,500 level, a key psychological mark for traders.

Trading continues through the afternoon session, with investors closely monitoring both local developments and global market cues for direction.
