MANILA, Philippines — Philippine stocks ended the session slightly lower on January 16, 2026, as selling pressure weighed on most sectors, dragging the benchmark Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) down by 14.8 points, or 0.23 percent, to close at 6,472.73.
The broader All Shares index also slipped, falling 0.17 percent to 3,654.35, reflecting cautious sentiment among investors amid mixed sector performance.
Only two sectors managed to stay in positive territory. Holding Firms led the gainers, rising 0.53 percent to 5,182.90, while Financials edged up 0.14 percent to 2,182.50, offering some support to the market.
Meanwhile, losses were seen across most other sectors. Services recorded the steepest drop, sliding 1.08 percent to 2,552.90, followed by Mining and Oil, which plunged 1.62 percent to 17,327.27 amid renewed selling. Property stocks also declined by 0.62 percent, while Industrials slipped 0.28 percent.
Market observers noted that investors remained selective, with gains limited to specific stocks while broader sentiment stayed cautious. The mixed performance suggests that traders are closely watching economic developments and global market cues before making stronger bets.
