The Philippine Stock Exchange index (PSEi) ended Monday in negative territory as investors remained cautious, dragging the benchmark lower by 35.25 points or 0.59 percent to close at 5,941.52.

Market activity stayed relatively subdued, with total traded value reaching PHP 4.0 billion.

Decliners heavily outnumbered gainers during the session, with 117 stocks falling against 65 advancers, while 68 issues ended unchanged — reflecting a generally weaker market sentiment across sectors.

Foreign investors also remained net sellers for the day. Foreign buying totaled Php 1.89 billion, while foreign selling reached Php 2.11 billion, resulting in net foreign selling of Php 225.76 million.

The latest pullback comes as investors continue to monitor global economic developments, interest rate expectations, and corporate earnings outlooks, which have kept trading cautious in recent sessions.

Despite the decline, market watchers note that the PSEi continues to hover near key psychological support levels, with investors closely watching whether buying interest can return in the coming days.
