From a late-night surrender to a courtroom appearance, former senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. formally faced the Sandiganbayan after authorities served him a warrant of arrest in connection with a malversation case tied to an alleged ghost flood control project in Pandi, Bulacan.

Revilla arrived at the anti-graft court accompanied by Interior and Local Government Secretary Jonvic Remulla, along with his wife, Representative Lani Mercado, and son, Representative Jolo Revilla, as the case against him moved forward.

Remulla was quick to stress that Revilla would be treated like any other accused. “There will be no special treatment,” the DILG chief said, underscoring that the legal process would take its course.

Remulla added that six out of seven accused in the case involving an alleged PHP92.8-million ghost project in Bulacan have already been arrested.

Among those taken into custody were officials from the Bulacan 1st District Engineering Office (DEO) — Brice Ericson Hernandez, Jaypee Mendoza, Arjay Domasig, and Juanito Mendoza — who were arrested by the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI). Another DEO official, Christina Mae Pineda, was apprehended by the Criminal Investigation and Detection Group (CIDG).

Remulla added that former DPWH materials engineer Emelita Capistrano remains at large as authorities continue their manhunt.
