Ridon Presses VP's Husband Over Billions In Bank Transactions

House Committee on Public Accounts Chair Terry Ridon pushed back against claims made by lawyer Manases Carpio, husband of Vice President Sara Duterte, over alleged discrepancies in an Anti-Money Laundering Council (AMLC) report discussed in Congress.
Carpio earlier pointed out that a transaction initially reported as P2 billion was later corrected by the Bank of the Philippine Islands (BPI) to only P2 million, arguing that the correction was supposedly left out of the AMLC report submitted to lawmakers.
But Ridon insisted the correction was already reflected in the report and said it did not change the larger issue involving billions of pesos in transactions linked to the Vice President and her husband.
“Bakit hindi namin sinama? Eh nakalagay nga sa report ‘yon. The report is there for everyone to see. But again, ang sabi pa rin ho ng AMLC in their summary list, it is still P6.7 billion,” Ridon said during an ambush interview.
“And even assuming it became P2 million from P2 billion, it is still in the billions. It doesn't change the fact that the total transactions are still in the billions. It doesn't change the fact that the inflows are still in the billions,” he added.
According to Ridon, the AMLC report flagged a total of P6.77 billion in “covered and suspicious” transactions tied to Duterte and Carpio over a span of 20 years.
The report allegedly showed around P4.4 billion in inflows and P1.55 billion in outflows, which Ridon said pointed to bank balances reaching billions of pesos.
Ridon also questioned why these amounts were supposedly not reflected in the Vice President’s Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALNs).
He claimed that from 2019 to 2024, the section for “cash on hand or in bank” in Duterte’s SALNs reportedly contained blank entries.
“And ultimately who are these personalities? Public servant? Lawyers? Losing businesses? Paano ipapaliwanag ang P6.7 billion in total transactions, P4.4 billion in net inflows? Hindi ho ganyan yung profile ng mag-asawang mga abogado,” Ridon said.
The Vice President and her camp have yet to issue a new statement addressing Ridon’s latest remarks.
