A House leader on Friday dismissed a new petition filed before the Supreme Court of the Philippines seeking to halt the impeachment proceedings against Vice President Sara Duterte, saying it raises no new arguments.
Terry Ridon, chair of the House Committee on Public Accounts and a member of the House Committee on Justice, said the petition filed by a group led by the One Bangsamoro Movement merely repeats points already submitted in earlier filings.
The petition asks the high court to stop the ongoing proceedings at the House of Representatives of the Philippines, where lawmakers are evaluating impeachment complaints against Duterte.
Ridon, however, stressed that the House will proceed with its scheduled hearing, noting that no temporary restraining order has been issued by the court.
“Kahit ano pang gawin ng mga alyado ng Pangalawang Pangulo, tuloy ang pagdinig sa April 14,” he said.
The House panel is set to convene on April 14 to continue its review of the complaints.
