Samsung Electronics is reimagining home appliances by turning everyday machines into stylish pieces that blend naturally into modern living spaces — and the idea is already gaining global recognition.
At the prestigious Red Dot Design Award 2026, Samsung received awards for all 16 of its submitted products, with its Bespoke AI Laundry appliances earning the competition’s highest distinction, the “Best of the Best” award.
The company said the recognition reflects its “Expressive Design” philosophy, which focuses on creating appliances that are not only functional but also visually pleasing and easier to integrate into everyday life.
According to Samsung designers, one of the biggest goals behind the Bespoke AI Laundry lineup was to make washers and dryers feel less like bulky appliances and more like furniture that naturally complements a home’s interior.
“Samsung’s uni-body design concept serves as a key strategy for establishing a consistent brand identity across appliances. Regardless of the form factor, users can experience a consistent aesthetic, with the appliances adding to the overall atmosphere as furniture,” said Jinsun Park of Samsung’s Living Design Group.
The Bespoke AI Laundry lineup uses a “uni-body” design approach, giving separate washers, dryers, and combo units a clean and seamless appearance through matching colors, materials, and finishes.
Designers also worked closely with Samsung’s research and development team to maximize functionality while maintaining the minimalist look.
Park explained that creating the Bespoke AI Combo was particularly challenging because the company wanted to deliver the drying performance of a standalone dryer inside a compact washer-sized machine.
“When designing the auto dispenser, we worked closely with the R&D team to carefully refine pump placement and assembly structures, securing an additional milliliter of capacity within the densely packed layout,” Park said.
Samsung also focused heavily on improving the user experience through a 7-inch full-touch display designed to simplify laundry tasks.
“The key was to find the right balance between providing more information and maintaining simplicity, as adding more features can make the product harder to use,” said Yunkyung Kang from the company’s UX Design Group.
To make the interface easier to understand, Samsung incorporated animations and visual elements that help users quickly identify machine settings and laundry status without needing complicated instructions.
Beyond aesthetics and usability, Samsung highlighted sustainability as another major part of the project.
According to Sungjun Kim, the company adopted new manufacturing methods that reduce waste and energy consumption by using pre-colored steel sheets and film-laminated metal instead of traditional spray-painting techniques.
“By producing multiple components from a single pre-colored sheet, we significantly streamlined the process and reduced waste,” Kim explained.
Samsung said the award-winning appliances reflect the company’s broader goal of combining AI, design, and sustainability to make household chores simpler while improving the overall living experience.
Aside from the Bespoke AI Laundry series, Samsung also received awards for several other products, including the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold7, Samsung OLED TV S95H, and Samsung Portable SSD T7 Resurrected.
