BATANGAS CITY, Philippines — Security was tightened at Batangas City Integrated High School after an alleged shooting threat prompted school officials to suspend classes and implement emergency safety measures to protect students and staff.
The incident came to light late Sunday, June 28, after threatening messages were sent through the school's official Facebook page warning of possible violence against students. The messages quickly circulated online, raising concern among parents, teachers, and the local community.
As a precaution, the school administration suspended all classes and on-site activities on Monday, June 29, while authorities assessed the situation and secured the campus. Police officers were immediately deployed to conduct a threat assessment and strengthen security around the school.
Acting on the directive of Batangas Police Provincial Office Acting Provincial Director Police Colonel Oliver Ebora, investigators launched an inquiry into the incident. Police later identified a Child in Conflict with the Law (CICL) as the person of interest and referred the minor to the Batangas City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) for assessment and appropriate intervention in accordance with the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act.
Authorities have withheld the identity and age of the minor in compliance with laws protecting children involved in legal proceedings. The investigation remains ongoing to determine the circumstances surrounding the online threat.
Following a thorough security inspection, the Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division Office of Batangas City, local officials, and the school administration declared the campus safe. Face-to-face classes resumed on Tuesday, June 30, after authorities completed the necessary safety and security protocols.
The incident comes amid heightened security measures in schools following recent violent incidents and online threats reported in other parts of the country. Authorities have reiterated the importance of immediately investigating all threats to ensure the safety of learners and school personnel.
Police and school officials also urged the public to remain calm, avoid spreading unverified information, and rely only on official announcements from the school administration and law enforcement agencies. They likewise encouraged anyone with information related to suspicious online messages or activities to report them immediately to the proper authorities.
