'See You At The Senate': Akbayan Pushes For Sara Impeachment

Members of Akbayan Party staged a protest outside the House of Representatives of the Philippines on Monday as lawmakers prepared to vote on the possible impeachment of Vice President Sara Duterte over allegations involving undeclared wealth, questionable confidential fund spending, and alleged multi-billion-peso bank transactions.

Carrying placards and banners at the south gate of Congress in Quezon City, protesters called on legislators to support the impeachment move and hold the Vice President accountable. One of the largest banners displayed during the rally read: “Sara, See You at the Senate!”

Akbayan Youth National Secretary-General Deeann Caspe said the demonstration reflected what he described as growing public demand for accountability.

“Today, Vice President Sara is poised to go down in Philippine history as the highest-ranking official to be impeached by Congress twice in succession. She should now prepare to face the impeachment court. Sara, see you at the Senate!” he said.

Caspe added that while the Supreme Court previously voided Duterte’s 2025 House impeachment, a significant number of lawmakers had already shown support for the move and appeared ready to do so again.

“If the first time left room for doubt, this time the sheer weight, seriousness, and truthfulness of the charges are confirmed,” he added.

Meanwhile, Akbayan Representative Perci Cendaña said the latest developments show that even with elections approaching, lawmakers are becoming more willing to pursue accountability cases against high-ranking officials.

“The math is simple. Every day Sara evades the charges, public distrust deepens and more lawmakers are emboldened to vote for impeachment. Sara herself has become the single biggest force driving Congress to impeach her,” Cendaña said.

Cendaña also urged the Senate of the Philippines to immediately convene as an impeachment court once the complaint reaches the chamber.

“There is more than enough probable cause. The evidence against Sara is compelling,” Cendaña said. “I call on our counterparts in the Senate to fulfill their constitutional duty and proceed with the impeachment trial. Congress has done its part. It is now the Senate’s turn to deliver.”

Reports also said Akbayan Representative Chel Diokno is being considered as part of the House prosecution panel in the impeachment proceedings.
