The Senate on Monday formally received the answer of Vice President Sara Duterte to the articles of impeachment filed against her, marking a key procedural step in the constitutional process.
Senate Secretary and concurrent Impeachment Court Clerk of Court Jose Luis Montales confirmed that the filing was officially submitted and logged at around 4:35 p.m. on June 1, 2026.
The Vice President’s legal team, led by Atty. Michael Poa, personally delivered the documents to the Senate. The submission included printed copies of the answer as well as a USB drive containing electronic versions of the filing.
Under impeachment procedure in the Philippines, the respondent is allowed to submit a formal answer after the articles of impeachment are transmitted to the Senate, which sits to handle the case in accordance with its constitutional mandate.
The Senate has not yet announced any further schedule or procedural timeline following the receipt of the filing.
The impeachment complaint was transmitted by the House of Representatives earlier this year, triggering the Senate’s constitutional role in handling impeachment proceedings.
With Duterte’s answer now officially on record, attention shifts to the next steps in the process as the Senate continues to act on the case under its impeachment authority.
