Tab Baldwin's Wife Breaks Silence
Screengrab from Tudor Clee
Effie Baldwin, who identified herself as the wife of Ateneo basketball coach Tab Baldwin, has publicly spoken out following the coach's recent interview, distancing herself and her children from his remarks.

The statement was shared through a Facebook post by Tudor Clee, a barrister and criminal and traffic lawyer based in Auckland, New Zealand.

In the video, Effie said she has been married to Baldwin since 2011 but left him in early 2020 with her children due to concerns for their safety.

“Hello, my name is Effie and I have been married to Tav Baldwin since 2011. I'm officially still married to him. However, in early 2020 I had to flee away from Tav for the sake of myself and my kids, to keep us safe.”

Effie said she decided to release the statement after Baldwin spoke about his family in a recent interview.

“This video is because of his latest interview and when he talks about his family I want to make sure that he doesn't represent me or my kids,” she said.

She also alleged that she repeatedly raised concerns with Ateneo de Manila University regarding Baldwin's presence around children and urged the school to take action.

“At the time, I repeatedly told the Ateneo University that children are not safe around him and it was their duty to remove him. I urged them to move him away from the campus, the university campus, and they proceeded to launch a campaign of intimidation and silencing.”

Effie also addressed Rovelyn and Elias, the parents of Ateneo student-athletes Divine Adili and Rene Barabonia, who died during a team activity in Dipaculao, Aurora.

“Rovelyn and Elias, the deaths of your kids were not only predictable but preventable.”

She further criticized Baldwin's comments about moving forward from the tragedy.

Effie concluded her statement by urging the public and law enforcement authorities in the Philippines to continue examining the circumstances surrounding Baldwin's involvement with young athletes.

“I urge the Filipinos and the police there to keep asking why he was still allowed around children in spite of these warnings.”

As of posting, neither Baldwin nor Ateneo de Manila University has publicly responded to the allegations contained in the video statement.
