Authorities have formally filed a series of criminal charges against the 15-year-old student accused in the deadly shooting incident at San Jose National High School in Tacloban City, Leyte.
The teenager is now facing three counts of murder, three counts of frustrated murder, and several counts of serious physical injuries in connection with the attack that shocked the school community.
Meanwhile, prosecutors did not include the 14-year-old alleged accomplice in the charges. Officials explained that under Republic Act No. 9344, or the Juvenile Justice and Welfare Act of 2006, children aged 15 and below are generally exempt from criminal liability, provided they acted without discernment.
The case has drawn widespread attention and renewed discussions on youth violence, school safety, and the implementation of laws involving minors in conflict with the law.
As the legal process moves forward, authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident while families, students, and educators seek justice and healing in the aftermath of the tragedy.
