Former senator Antonio Trillanes IV brought back long-standing allegations of hidden wealth and SALN nondisclosure against Vice President Sara Duterte, submitting a sworn affidavit before the House Committee on Justice on Wednesday.
The affidavit was presented during impeachment proceedings where lawmakers are assessing whether there is probable cause over allegations involving unexplained wealth and possible misdeclarations in Statements of Assets, Liabilities and Net Worth (SALN).
Trillanes said his claims trace back to information he first received in 2016 while still a senator, involving alleged bank records linked to then presidential candidate Rodrigo Duterte and members of his family.
He identified an informant who allegedly provided documents showing bank accounts under names linked to the Duterte family, which he said were later compared with official SALN filings.
Trillanes said his team reviewed the materials alongside SALN disclosures for consistency.
“Sa mga sumunod na araw, sinuri at pinag-aralan ko, kasama ang aking mga abogado at staff, ang impormasyong ibinigay ni G. De Mesa at inihambing ito sa mga idineklara sa kani-kanilang Statements of Assets, Liabilities, and Net Worth (SALN) nina Rodrigo Duterte at Sara Duterte para sa mga kaukulang panahon,” he said.
He added that he eventually made the information public, saying it contradicted the public image of simplicity often associated with the Duterte family.
The affidavit also linked Sara Duterte to alleged undeclared wealth, which Trillanes claimed was not reflected in her SALNs from earlier years.
He argued that the combination of alleged hidden assets and SALN discrepancies could fall under impeachable offenses.
The House Committee on Justice is expected to continue evaluating submissions as part of its determination of probable cause in the impeachment complaint.
