Valdez Named Player Of The Week As 'Phenom' Powers Creamline In Clutch Win
Still the biggest name when it matters most, Alyssa Valdez reminded everyone why she’s called the “Phenom.”

The Creamline Cool Smashers captain delivered a vintage performance, dropping a triple-double of 22 points, 13 digs, and 13 receptions to push her squad past the Cignal HD Spikers in a thrilling five-set showdown, 25-19, 25-20, 15-25, 26-28, 16-14, to close out the preliminaries of the Premier Volleyball League 2026 All-Filipino Conference.

At 32, Valdez didn’t just flash brilliance—she took control of one of Creamline’s most crucial games yet, stepping up exactly when the team needed her most. It was a performance that mirrored her career: calm under pressure, and always ready to rise.

That clutch showing earned Valdez her first PVL Press Corps Player of the Week award in the league’s professional era, beating out strong contenders like Royse Tubino, Trisha Tubu, Eli Soyud, Brooke Van Sickle, and Sisi Rondina for the weekly honor.

Even before that breakout game, signs of her resurgence were already showing. In a previous loss to Farm Fresh, Valdez still managed 14 points and 11 digs, despite the absence of key teammates like Jema Galanza and Bernadeth Pons, along with head coach Sherwin Meneses.

For the three-time PVL MVP, it’s not about chasing the spotlight again—it’s about reminding herself and her team of what they’re capable of.

Valdez shared that each game serves as a personal and team reminder that they’re still in the fight, focusing on doing her part and stepping up when needed.

With a high-stakes rematch against Cignal looming in the qualifying round, the pressure is only building, especially with a direct semifinals berth on the line.

But if history says anything, it’s this: when the moment gets bigger, Valdez rises—and she brings the Cool Smashers with her.
