The Land Transportation Office (LTO) has issued a Show Cause Order (SCO) against the registered owner and driver of an SUV involved in a fatal road crash in Marikina City. The driver, who is reportedly the son of a vice mayor, is now facing administrative charges following the incident that claimed the life of a motorcycle rider.

Under the leadership of LTO Chief Assistant Secretary Markus V. Lacanilao, the agency quickly launched an investigation after a video of the crash went viral online.

According to the Marikina Police, the accident happened before dawn on June 13, 2026, in Barangay Concepcion Dos. Initial findings showed that the SUV collided with a Yamaha Mio Aerox after the motorcycle allegedly made a left turn. The rider suffered severe injuries and was later declared dead.

Authorities also subjected the SUV driver to an Alcohol Breath Analyzer (ABA) test, which showed a Blood Alcohol Concentration (BAC) of 0.410%—an indication that the driver was under the influence of alcohol at the time of the crash.

The LTO has ordered the driver to appear before its Intelligence and Investigation Division (IID) on July 8 and submit a sworn explanation along with supporting documents. The agency will determine whether the driver should face charges for reckless driving, driving under the influence of alcohol, and whether the driver's license should be suspended or revoked for being considered an improper person to operate a motor vehicle.

Pending the investigation, the driver's license has been placed under a 90-day preventive suspension, while the SUV has been placed under alarm status.

"Wala tayong sinisino. Ang sinumang lumalabag sa batas ay mananagot, anuman ang kanyang katayuan sa buhay o koneksyon," Lacanilao said, stressing that the law applies equally to everyone.

The LTO also reminded motorists never to drive under the influence of alcohol, warning that one reckless decision on the road can cost lives. The agency said it remains committed to strictly enforcing traffic laws and holding violators accountable, regardless of their status or connections.
