After days of staying out of sight, the man behind the now-viral “gas-and-run” incident has finally surfaced—and he did so by turning himself in.

The Quezon City Police District (QCPD) confirmed that the suspect, identified only as alias “Jefferson,” 27, voluntarily surrendered at Police Station 1 around 8:00 p.m. yesterday. He was accompanied by members of his family.

Authorities said the surrender came after an intense investigation led by the QCPD’s Special Investigation Team. Using CCTV footage and coordination with other agencies, investigators were able to trace both the vehicle and the person involved, eventually closing in on the suspect.

According to police findings, Jefferson went into hiding after realizing the incident had gone viral online. He reportedly stopped going out and avoided social media, claiming he didn’t initially know that authorities were already tracking him down. He stayed at his home in San Jose del Monte, where the vehicle used in the incident was also found.

With the suspect now in custody, the QCPD said it is preparing to file the appropriate charges before the prosecutor’s office through regular legal procedures.

Meanwhile, in a show of support, personnel from Laloma Police Station 1 extended cash assistance to the gas station attendant affected by the incident to help cover the losses.
