Vice President Sara Duterte joined the celebration of the Philippines’ 128th Independence Day in Davao City, where she paid tribute to the heroes whose sacrifices paved the way for the nation’s freedom and sovereignty.
Speaking after the commemorative program held at Rizal Park, Duterte said it was an honor to take part in the observance, which included a wreath-laying ceremony in recognition of the courage and patriotism of those who fought for the country's independence.
The Vice President also thanked everyone who participated in the event, including members of the security sector, the diplomatic corps, military veterans, local government personnel, and residents who joined the celebration.
In her message, Duterte urged Filipinos to continue standing up for values that she said are essential to the nation’s future—truth, accountability, freedom, and sovereignty.
She called on the public to choose courage over surrender, dignity over submission, and hope over despair, emphasizing the importance of protecting democratic principles and ensuring that leaders remain accountable to the people.
Duterte likewise described Independence Day as a reminder that freedom and national sovereignty remain among the country's most valuable and enduring legacies. She expressed hope that future generations would continue to safeguard these ideals and uphold the sacrifices made by the nation’s heroes.
Closing her message, the Vice President encouraged Filipinos to deepen their love for the country and work together for the good of the nation, its people, and every Filipino family.
“Let us love the Philippines—for God, for country, and for every Filipino family,” Duterte said.
